Mozambique hosts conference on energy access
04.08.2022 // Events
The Energy Regulatory Authority (ARENE) and the Netherlands Development Organization (SNV) through
the BRILHO program, will hold the first Regional Conference on the Regulatory Framework for Access
to Off-grid Energy, on the 22nd and 24rd November 2022, in Maputo. It is an international event that
will bring together more than 50 panelists, with the aim of sharing the regulatory framework for
access to energy in off-grid areas with relevant regulatory bodies and associations, providing the
exchange of experiences, as well as creating opportunities for synergies in the off-grid energy sector
in Africa and Mozambique.
During these two days, regulators, funders and operators, participants in the off-grid and renewable
energy access sector, from Mozambique and other African countries, will present, discuss and
recommend on the challenges and opportunities for the off-grid energy sector, as a viable solution
to reach the objectives of universal access to efficient and clean energy sources by 2030.
Thematic sessions include topics such as quality of customer service and digital solutions, certification
and application of technical quality and safety standards, interconnection of the national network and
energy transition strategies, tariff schemes, financing options and others, without leaving aside
characteristic issues of rural environments, such as local content and Gender Equality and Social
Inclusion (GESI).
It should be reported that ARENE and SNV signed a Memorandum of Understanding last June, whose
objective is the operationalization of the regulatory framework for off-grid energy access, and the
conference is in reference one of the actions that contribute to the implementation of this
Memorandum.
The event is funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and the Swedish
Agency for International Development Cooperation (SIDA), under the umbrella of BRILHO, a fiveyear
program which aims to catalyze the off-grid energy market in Mozambique, and to provide clean
energy solutions and accessible to the population of the country, with emphasis on rural areas, thus
responding to actions for Universal Access to Energy 2030.
